The Challenge
Research institutions require flexible ways to develop immersive experiences for education, training, demonstrations, and public engagement. However, creating customized VR content traditionally involves specialist development skills, additional costs, and longer production cycles, making it difficult for instructors to develop experiences independently.
The institute needed a dedicated XR laboratory that would bring content capture, VR creation, and deployment together in one environment. The goal was to empower instructors to create experiences for different audiences, adapt content to specific requirements, and deliver immersive learning without relying on developers for every new project.
Spatio established a VR Lab and Content Creation Hub, enabling instructors to independently create, customize, and deliver immersive experiences without coding.
The XR Laboratory Experience
Spatio integrated 360-degree capture equipment, Connector’s visual authoring platform, and Meta Quest 3 headsets into a unified content creation and delivery environment.
Instructors can capture real-world environments using dedicated camera equipment, import 360-degree images and videos into Connector, and assemble immersive experiences through a visual drag-and-drop interface. This enables the institute to transform its own facilities, environments, and learning materials into virtual experiences for training, virtual tours, safety briefings, and mission briefings.
The laboratory also supports role-based access and multi-session VR delivery, providing a structured environment for content creation, management, and immersive experience delivery.
Key Features & Training Flow
360-Degree Environment Capture
Dedicated capture equipment enables instructors to record real-world spaces and create immersive source material for virtual experiences.
No-Code Content Creation
Connector's visual authoring platform allows instructors to build and customize VR experiences through drag-and-drop workflows without programming.
Custom Experience Development
Captured images and videos can be assembled into virtual tours, facility walkthroughs, safety briefings, and mission briefings.
Role-Based Access Management
Multiple access levels help organize content creation, platform administration, and delivery responsibilities across authorized users.
Integrated VR Deployment
Meta Quest 3 headsets provide a dedicated platform for delivering immersive experiences created within the laboratory.
Multi-Session Experience Delivery
The laboratory's multi-session system supports organized VR experience delivery across available headsets and training groups.
How Spatio Delivered It
Spatio designed and deployed an integrated XR laboratory that brought together the infrastructure, software, and hardware required for independent VR content creation. The setup included 360-degree capture equipment, Connector’s no-code authoring platform, and a fleet of Meta Quest 3 headsets.
Beyond the technical deployment, Spatio configured role-based access, established content capture and creation workflows, and trained instructors to use the platform. This enabled the institute to manage the complete process, from capturing real environments to creating and delivering immersive experiences.
The resulting hub provides a reusable foundation for developing new VR applications as research, training, and outreach requirements evolve.
